Wish You Knew (performed by Dwight Newman)
I originally wrote the tune for this back in 1984. It was one of the first tunes I wrote. My brother
Dwight added the original words to it- I think they were mostly all his, sometime around then- I think
maybe 1986, and added the bridge instrumental part, and then it's kind of sat on the shelf, until
recently we changed the lyrics around a bit more to come up with how it presently is. It's still mostly
his lyrics - I had a hand in writing the third verse. Dwight recorded it at my home here in LA while
on a visit from his home in Kansas City. I'll include a take of it on my lastest album "The Sandhill
Waltz", which will be out shortly.
I heard your name in conversation
Seemed fine as usual and busy too
Been quite awhile since I remembered
Wish you knew how much I still love you
I climbed a tree up on the river bluff
Took me half the day just to find it
It’s got the prettiest view
And a seat for two
Wish you knew how much I still love you
It’s true you can loose your love in a thousand ways
But you can’t keep your heart in some dusty box forever
I’ll be blamed if it’ll make me blue
But I just wish you knew how much I still love you
Interlude
Sometimes I almost hear us laughin’
But I don’t let it make me blue
It almost seems a shame we’re happy
Wish you knew how much I still love you
Chorus
